Frequently Asked Questions
Is my child eligible to play for SCLL?
In order to be eligible to play for SCLL, a child must meet these criteria:
1. Must be league age 4 to 16 (league age can be different than birth age).
2. Must live within, or attend a school within, the approved SCLL boundary (except for children league age 7 and below due to new Little League rule).

.
When does the season start?
Practices for regular spring season typically start in early March. After spring break, you can expect to add 1-2 games per week to your schedule as well, and the regular season will extend through the beginning of June. If your child is eligible for all stars and makes an all-star team, practices typically start in June right after the regular season ends, with tournaments starting in July.
Does SCLL play teams from other leagues?
It depends. Our goal at SCLL is always to field enough teams to play each other for a fun and competitive season. However, depending on the number of registered players and the amount of coaches that step up each year, team numbers may be lower than we'd like, and in that case, we will typically enter interleague play. Interleague play means that SCLL will play other teams in District 6, with a combination of those games played at SCLL fields, and the other played at other District 6 Little League fields. Interleague play typically happens with the older baseball divisions as well as all softball divisions.
What if an age division doesn't have enough players sign up to field a whole team?
'Combined play' happens when we do not have enough players to field a whole team for a specific age division. This typically happens at the higher age divisions. For example, if we only have 6 players that register for the baseball 50/70 Intermediate level play, we will have to combine our players with another District 6 Little League who also needs more players for that specific division, to form a team.
Where are games played?
Most SCLL games are played at
Luke Jensen Sports Park
. However, makeup games and interleague games may be played at other locations. For more information about field locations, click

.
Does SCLL conduct player tryouts?
SCLL does not require tryouts, but they do require safety evaluations for baseball divisions AA, AAA and Majors, which are typically held in the month of February prior to the draft of teams. Safety evaluations require players to demonstrate their fielding, batting and running skills (and pitching skills if they desire) in order to make sure they are playing in the proper division for their skill set.
Does SCLL provider player uniforms and gear?
SCLL will provide a returnable shirt or jersey for all players, as well as a team hat (player keeps). Players must purchase their own cleats, socks, belt, pants and any undershirts that match team colors (team coaches will determine these colors). Tennis shoes are okay for the younger divisions that play on the turf fields at SCLL. The league does provide each team with batting helmets if a child needs to borrow one, but most players choose to purchase their own. Players will need to purchase their own glove and bat.
How many events (practices and games) can I expect per week?
Typically, 2 to 4 events are allowed, depending on the level of play. More information about this is located under the 'Programs' tab at the top of the website.
Does SCLL allow coach and buddy requests?
Coach and buddy requests are only allowed at the tee ball, Single A baseball, and PeeWee softball divisions. Coach and buddy requests are NOT guaranteed, however. At these younger ages, we try our best to keep kids that know each other together in order for them to feel more comfortable and to have fun.
What type of bat does my child need?
Little League requires the use of USABat Standard bats. You will see this stamped on the baseball bat itself. You can find more information
HERE
.
Does SCLL provide any financial assistance?
Yes, SCLL is able to provide a couple of different resources to help with the cost of registration fees for those in financial need.
The
T-Mobile Little League Call Up Grant
opens every year (typically in January) for a certain amount of time for applications to help with registration fees. We ask that anyone needing financial assistance apply for this resource first.
In the event that the T-Mobile Little League Call Up Grant is no longer accepting applications, or your application has been denied for whatever reason, SCLL is able to help with registration fees with the help of our league's
Josh Hojnacki Scholarship Fund
.
How can I help with my child's team?
Yes! As a 100% volunteer-run organization, SCLL is always looking for individuals to step up and help keep our league running smoothly and efficiently. From coaches, to team parents, to board members, to auction committee members, we can always use more helping hands!
