Baseball Program

Salmon Creek Little League (SCLL) offers coach pitch and player pitch baseball programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels during both the spring and fall seasons. These programs are available to boys and girls, league ages 7 to 16.

To participate in our baseball programs, players must either reside or attend school within the designated SCLL boundaries.

Our programs focus on teaching the fundamentals of baseball to both players and parents, while fostering an enjoyable, team-oriented atmosphere that promotes sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and physical fitness.

League Age

The age determination date for a Little League baseball player is the actual age of a child as of August 31 of the current year. These respective dates identify the "league age" as it relates to a player's eligibility to participate in any of Little League's divisions of play.

To help determine the league age of your player, please visit Little League Age Calculator.

Skills Evaluations

Each year, SCLL holds evaluations for all drafted-level players (ages 8-16). Evaluations help to determine a player's overall skill and aptitude, while helping to identify strengths and weaknesses for managers and coaches. Evaluations are usually held each February. Evaluation results are confidential, and are not posted or published publicly.

Regular Season Play

The regular season typically runs from approximately beginning of March to early June each year.

Players and families will be contacted by the league and/or their respective team Manager regarding practice schedules, game schedules, etc.

  • A and AA levels begin practices in early March. Players and families can expect 2 events per week at the Single-A level, and 2-3 events per week at Double-A. 15 to 20 games will be played during the season.
  • AAA, Majors, Intermediates, Juniors, and Seniors typically begin practices in early March. Players and families can expect up to 3-4 events per week, with 20 or more games in the regular season.
At the end of the regular season the A, AA AAA, and Majors teams typically participate in a tournament against the other SCLL teams.

A Division (League Age 7) - Coach Pitch

This level continues to introduce the fundamental concepts of baseball, with a focus on throwing, catching, hitting, and sportsmanship. Scores and statistics are not tracked at this stage. Teams are primarily formed based on school affiliation and/or friend requests, and we make every effort to ensure kids play with their friends or classmates. Six-year-olds are eligible to participate if they have completed one year of Tee Ball.

AA Division (League Age 8) - Intro to Player Pitch with Coach Assist

This level builds on the foundational concepts of baseball while introducing more advanced elements. Emphasis remains on throwing, catching, hitting, and sportsmanship, but players also begin to focus more on defense. Scores are recorded, and players learn game rules, including striking out on called or missed swings. This is the first year that skill evaluations are conducted, and attendance is mandatory. Teams are formed through a draft process based on these evaluations. Seven-year-olds may be eligible, depending on safety considerations and their evaluation results.

AAA Division (League Ages 9-10) - Player Pitch

This level continues to build on basic baseball concepts while developing pitching skills and enhancing fielding and hitting techniques. Focus areas include pitching, throwing, catching, hitting, and sportsmanship. Scores are recorded, and teams are formed through a draft process based on player evaluations, which are mandatory to attend. Eight-year-olds may be eligible, depending on safety considerations and their evaluation results.

Majors Division (League Ages 11-12) - Competitive

This level emphasizes advanced baseball concepts, with a focus on improving players' fielding, hitting, and pitching skills. Teams are formed through a draft process, with school and friend requests not taken into consideration. The primary goal in team formation is to ensure parity across the division. Ten-year-olds may be eligible, depending on safety considerations and their evaluation results.

Intermediate 50/70 Division (League Age 13)

The Little League Intermediate program is designed for league-age 13-year-olds, incorporating some rules from Big League baseball, such as leading off, stealing, and balks. Pitchers throw from a distance of 50 feet, and the bases are set at 70 feet. Games are played both within the league and against teams from other leagues in District 6. Additional details about Intermediate level play are available on the Little League Intermediate Division website.

Players at this level can also choose to become youth umpires for the AA, AAA, and Majors divisions, earning volunteer hour credit in the process.

Juniors Division (League Ages 13-14)

The Junior League Baseball Division is designed for boys and girls ages 13-14, playing on a standard 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. The game follows advanced baseball rules, including leading off, stealing, and balks. Games are played within the league and against teams from other leagues in District 6.

Players at this level also have the option to become youth umpires for the AA, AAA, and Majors divisions, earning volunteer hour credits.

Seniors Division (League Ages 15-16)

The Senior League Baseball Division is for boys and girls ages 15-16, played on a standard 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. Players at this level also have the opportunity to become youth umpires for the AA, AAA, and Majors divisions, earning volunteer hour credits.

All-Stars

All-Stars is a competitive post-season opportunity for drafted levels, beginning in mid-June and following Little League Tournament rules and schedules. In May, a Player Intent form is distributed to gauge interest from players. Coaches use this list to evaluate interested players during the final month of the season.

All-Stars teams are open to all eligible Salmon Creek Little League players from the regular season. Team formation is based on the approved All-Stars selection process.
